Conducted survey of non-wood composite board companies in the United States for large home improvement center. Quantified manufacturing capacity and distribution points, discussed how equipment selection and engineering design impacts can impact quality, examined future trends, assessed price differentials. Planning to present findings to Lowe's Executive Management in fall 2000.

Feasibility Study

Conducted feasibility for refining of sisal waste from East Africa for production of specific food additive compounds and proposed financing for production trials.


UNIDO / CFC

Product and Market Development for Sisal

Feasibility of pulp and paper production from sisal leaf fibre and sisal waste in East African region. Introduction of adapted agronomy for pulp production purposes, development of dedicated decortication technology and worldwide market study to develop markets for the targeted products. ATO-DLO is involved in the worldwide project management and in selected parts of the (confirmatory) pulping trials and training of project personnel.


ALLIANCE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL INNOVATION

Research and Analysis

Interviewed representatives from eight large corporations including Time Inc., BankAmerica, Starbucks, Salomon Brothers and McDonalds to describe how their paper purchasing decisions have influenced the markets for environmentally preferable paper. Quantified and analyzed data (see www.edf.org). Investigated trends towards switching to chlorine-free paper mills. The report was designed to influence other large paper buyers.

Technical Feasibility analysis of Spaceboard technology, licenses and patents, and consulting on future business development efforts on spaceboard.


FLUFFY FLAX

Enterprise Development

Designed $ 14 million joint venture to produce natural fiber-based disposable paper products. Developed business plan that was awarded McKinsey & company's 1998 "New Venture" award. Major clients involved in product definition: SCA Hygiene products, PGI Nonwovens, P&G. Conducted partner search, finance deal with VC (affiliated with Bay City capital), joint venture formation, technology development, equipment sourcing, production trials, marketing trials. Clients continue to monitor market indicators.

Strategic Busines Development

Designed marketing strategy and workflow for B2B e-business www.rondhoutbank.nl. Evaluated 1988-2000 biomaterial and biofuel innovation policy for Dutch government; advised setup of $ 50 million agro-innovation fund to be implemented in 2001. Facilitated workshops & training sessions 5-50 people.

Financing Consulting

Compiled current list of relevant sources of equity financing for bagasse board company in Louisiana. Helped form strategic alliances and financing package for Colusa, California-based fiberboard manufacturing company utilizing waste rice straw. Besides raising equity, initiated strategic alliances between Fibertech and major purchasers of fiberboard, such as the Gap, Inc.
