Hawaii’s commitments to a low-carbon future include a task force that will identify agricultural and aquacultural practices to improve soil health, increase climate resiliency, and improve carbon sequestration.

From international partnerships to state action, the fight for climate has reached celebrity status.

Access to better data and sharper analysis should help unlock the huge returns on offer from energy efficiency investments. So why is progress so slow?

Getting to 100 percent renewable energy in Hawaii by 20245 means granting energy access to “everyone, everywhere,” said Holmes Hummel, director of Clean Energy Works and former senior policy advisor in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Policy and International Affairs. “It gives me hope that 30 years after 2045, we may be able to celebrate an energy sector that is fossil-free worldwide,” she said. Even if all the remaining participating nations do their part to uphold the Paris Agreement, governments alone can’t substantially reduce the risk of catastrophic climate change.
